Are you a Canadian Military Veteran?
Would you like to attend the Annual Remembrance Day Ceremony at Victory Square in Vancouver, but you need assistance getting to this venue?
Or do you know a Veteran that would be interested in being escorted to the Vancouver Remembrance Day Ceremonies?
If so, please consider contacting The Remembrance Day Veterans Volunteer Team ! ! !
Who are we?
A group of Vancouver area men who have been volunteering their time since 1993 taking various WWII Veterans from the Dr. Brock Farni Pavilion* to the Victory Square event. (* = formally the Shaughnessy Military Hospital - both in Vancouver.)
We are now opening our invitation to other Veterans, from any world action, as individuals who might be residing at home or a health facility.
Each Veteran is provided with two volunteer men, a wheelchair and TransLink Handi Dart rides - with our volunteers onboard - to and from Victory Square. Plus warm blankets and clothing as needed. Everyone is escorted back to their starting point.
At the Cenotaph, the City of Vancouver provides us with a front row tent - in case of inclement weather.
If the Veteran is able to stay with us for an hour or more after the ceremony, they are taken to one - or two - different local pubs or legion's where they are given further honour for their service by the public, plus lunch, refreshments and often entertainment - at no cost.
The Remembrance Day Veterans Volunteer Team were 2017 winners of a City of Vancouver ‘Civic Volunteer Award of Excellence
These Veterans honoured us - and now we honour them.
